CBD Mystery Shopper: Chicago

Greetings from the Windy City, to which you can now add Cold, Foggy and Snowy. Just the kind of place where all those little aches and pain are likely to flare up.

It’s also an interesting place to shop for CBD and hemp products. Because, of Chicago’s nearly 250 CBD retailers, half are pet stores. Of the rest, there are some interesting options, as follows:

Wholesome Health Pharmacy, 2069 Barrington Rd, Hoffman Estates, IL 60169 (above), characterizes itself as a “local pharmacy” serving the community with prescription service and wellness advice. It advertises hemp oil but also carries gummies, creams and roll-ons in-store.

BESTSELLER: Hemp oils from Nuleaf and Charlotte’s Web

PROS: Good for people who find themselves in the area. Salespeople are knowledgeable and helpful; a naturopathic doctor / acupuncturist is available for questions.

CONS: The site’s “Shop Online” tab goes to a dubious URL with not-very-helpful material..

SUGGESTIONS: Fix that online store, please.

Qi Kratom CBD Tea, 624 Grove St, Evanston, IL 60201, is a kratom-first, CBD-second retailer with stores based in Evanston and Washington, DC, respectively. They sell a full range of CBD products in-store, but have a limited online store.

BESTSELLER: Oils for price and longevity.

PROS: Salespeople are knowledgeable and helpful; also unlikely to suggest a product until they know more about you and your price point.

CONS: Nope.

SUGGESTIONS: More e-commerce is always helpful for information purposes.

Life Spring Health Food Store has two locations in Chicago and sell a wide variety of CBD products that includes gummies, creams “but mostly tinctures.”

BESTSELLER: Charlotte’s Web Hemp Extract, 60 mg ($164.99).

PROS: Both locations are between Wrigley Field and the Chicago History Museum and are full-fledged health food stores (meaning you can get a lot of other shopping done while you’re there). Salespeople are knowledgeable and helpful; also unlikely to suggest a product until they know more about you and your price point.

CONS: Nope.

SUGGESTIONS: Having more e-commerce is always helpful, even for information purposes.
